About

Bart Drees Tunes is a self publishing company registered in June 2022 as BMI IPI number 01152870364 . The goal of the company and this web site is to release to the public recordings of music by Bastiaan “Bart” M. Drees. These home recordings span Bart’s life from when his family immigrated to Texas in 1959 from the Netherlands to the present. To stay in touch with Bart’s grandparents after the move, Bart’s dad exchanged reel-to-reel tapes sent by airmail between Dallas and Rotterdam. Since then, Bart has been recording his own compositions, music made with friends and family, and cover songs.

Through the years, reel-to-reel recordings were replaced by cassette recordings and finally in 1999 to CD’s. Initially, multiple track recordings were attempted setting two recording devices together and playing along with the first recording through the speaker while recording on the other machine, but sound quality was quickly lost. In 1994, A Tascam Porta 03 Mini Studio four-track cassette recorder first allowed for better multiple track recordings until a Boss BR 864 digital eight-track recorder in 2004, both presents from Bart’s brother, Herman, dramatically improved sound quality. New music happens every day, but access to these vintage home recordings may allow these creative efforts to inspire and persist.
